Sound Visions

Forty-five years of shots around the world of music, from Ciampi to Patty Smith, on the occasion of the ninetieth birthday of Piero Ciampi a photographic exhibition dedicated to the many artists of the musical panorama, both Italian and foreign, who have landed at the Ciampi Award in the last fifteen years will be set up in Livorno.

A sophisticated gallery of faces and stories skillfully designed by the lens of Furio Pozzi, official photographer of the prestigious Ciampian music festival, which will be possible to visit from July 31 to August 4 in the exhibition space of Wonder, the inclusive venue located on Scali del Monte 7, in Venice. The exhibition, titled SOUND VISIONS, is a suggestive journey into the world of Music, and proposes some of the most significant shots to its protagonists: from Patty Smith to Alais Morissette, up to Sinèad O’Connor and The Who, immortalized during their performances or behind the scenes. A combination, that between the musical sphere and photography, that Pozzi has cultivated since he was a boy and that has led him to create many works: “Music represents for me a faithful and irreplaceable travel companion. I started photographing music very early, to keep in mind the concerts I saw, since I had no way to record them: soon after, capturing the moment became a prerogative of my life.”

The SOUND VISIONS exhibition thus reveals not only the unmistakable language of the artist, but also his great passion for music, paying homage, at the same time, to the myth of the great Piero Ciampi on the anniversary of his birth. 40 prints in total, where the photographs taken on Livorno stages will be joined by those taken over the course of 45 years to various world-renowned musicians, both in Italy and abroad. The exhibition, with free admission, will be held concurrently with the 39th edition of Effetto Venezia, dedicated this year precisely to music in the world.

The author – Born and raised in Livorno (class of 1961), Furio Pozzi began to become passionate about photography at only 7 years old, thanks to a theoretical and practical course in cinema and photography. His first camera, a Kodak Instamatic, arrived as a gift for communion: from that moment he began to photograph the street and everything that moved around him, driven by curiosity and a great spirit of observation, combined with a marked artistic sensitivity inherited from his mother.

The passion for music would then do the rest, allowing him to capture in the field, over time, some of the greatest musicians in Jazz, Rock, Dark, New Wave (David Bowie, Lou Reed, The Who, Bauhaus, Siouxsie & Banshess, The Cure, The Clash, New Order, Patty Smith, just to name the most important). Over the years Pozzi has collaborated with specialized magazines, newspapers, theatrical and musical reviews; he has also received numerous awards in photography competitions and held several personal exhibitions (the latest are: “The Art of Carnival between dream and reality”, in 2018 at Palazzo Orlando, with 170 themed photographs; “The Artists of Ciampi” in 2020, at the Goldoni Theater with 90 photographs).”
