On August 4th, 1953, Maria Callas performed for the last time as Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana, in the sublime recording that has become an absolute reference in the discography, alongside Giuseppe Di Stefano, Anna Maria Canali, and conducted by Tullio Serafin.
On the occasion of the centenary of her birth and on the day of her last performance in the leading role of Cavalleria rusticana (the same role, Santuzza, in which she made her absolute debut in a student production of Cavalleria rusticana and won the Conservatory prize on April 2, ’39), the Mascagni Festival 2023 debuts with the show Callas@100, where Giuliana De Sio will portray the role of the Divine, in the dramaturgy of Fulvio Venturi. The show will be accompanied by some of the most important opera arias from the repertoire of the renowned soprano.
