Aspettando the Effetto Venezia: a film showcase to approach the moment of the festival.
Effetto Venezia launches a film festival to prepare for the upcoming summer event. Meanwhile, participants are still being sought for the free workshop offered by the Theater of the Winds company, which will inaugurate the event on August 2nd at 9.00 pm in Piazza del Luogo Pio with their play “Moby Dick”.
A city that becomes “the Cinema” in all its facets: from projections on the walls of the Venezia neighborhood to musical, theatrical, and street performances, as well as exhibitions, guest talks, and happenings. Everything will revolve around the Seventh Art during the five days of EFFETTO VENEZIA 2023, the summer event that will take place this year from August 2nd to 6th.
However, the 2023 edition will not only be special because of its theme, but also because it will give the opportunity for those who want to challenge themselves to be part of three different shows in the event through participation in three different workshops. And also because this year the event will be preceded by a preparatory program focused on cinema. Thus, Aspettando Effetto Venezia is born.
Marco Bruciati states: “Waiting for Effetto Venezia is a series of film events spread throughout the city in preparation for the five-day event in August. Eleven events, organized in collaboration with various entities from the Tuscan panorama, to kick-start our reflection on the concept that will guide this year’s edition, ‘Cinema is the city’.”
The selection of films screened at Fortezza Vecchia was made in collaboration with the Mostra d’arte cinematografica di Venezia. The key was a focus on women in cinema, showcasing films made by five female directors who have participated in the Festival di Venezia.
The decision to screen films in Piazza Magenta and inside the Marcato delle Vettovaglie aims to bring cinema outside of traditional theaters and into urban spaces, just like what will happen at Effetto Venezia 2023.
The screenings in Piazza Magenta were made possible thanks to the collaboration with the FI-PI-LI Horror Festival, the only film festival currently present in the city. Inside the Marcato delle Vettovaglie, the choice to screen films by Francesco Nuti pays tribute to the recently departed actor and director.
Lastly, Franco Zeffirelli’s “Romeo and Juliet,” presented in Florence at Piazzale degli Uffizi within the “Apriti cinema” cinematic arena, sets the stage for another important collaboration between Effetto Venezia, the Fondazione Sistema Toscana e Fondazione Franco Zeffirelli.
